After retiring from a 22+ year career as a Captain and Instructor in the Airline Industry, I intended to pursue a career with the FAA. However, before that occurred I decided to pursue a lifelong dream to fly helicopters. I took my first flight and haven’t looked back! I have always liked to try and help people, hence my time as a Police Sergeant, and my time as an Instructor with the airlines. I feel that with my new found love of flying helicopters I will still be able to help people. Currently by assisting young would be aviators in pursuing their desire to become helicopter pilots, and ultimately flying either with a Police Department or with a helicopter EMS Company,
I am fortunate that with a 25 year career there any many memorable moments. I would say those that stand out the most with me are the ones when I would have actually in-flight emergencies, successfully handle them as I had been trained and then be able to think back at the end of the day that you made a difference by being there at that time to a plane full of passengers and their families.
I would also have to include the times when I would pilot an aircraft carrying the body of a fallen solider home. The honor and emotion of being able to stand there as the casket was being removed from my aircraft, to tender a salute and shed a tear.
A professional musician. Everyone that knows me knows of my love of music. I am lucky to be able to keep my “hand” in it by performing as a DJ at party events, and being a drummer in a working band.
Spending time with my wife, whom I did not get to spend enough time with during my time as an Airline Captain, and playing drums with my band!
To either fly as a Police Pilot (Fort Worth PD #1 choice) in support of the Officers and citizen’s on the ground, or as an EMS Pilot helping those in need. I have always pursued jobs that amounted to more than just a paycheck. It’s all about at the end of the day – did you make a difference.
(But– we still got to have that paycheck!!)
