So you think you can hover? With your eyes out on the horizon I’m sure you can. Now lean out of the helicopter look down and slightly behind you. Are things starting to get weird? Now try to keep a small hook hanging 50-150 feet below the helicopter in one spot a couple feet off the ground. It wont take long for things to get swinging.
Longhorn Helicopters is proud to be one of only a few flight schools capable of offering longline or external load training. Throughout this course you will hone your vertical reference skills in the safest training helicopter made, the Schweizer 300C. This course is designed to help pilots develop fundamental skills for real world external load operations at a fraction of the cost and is attracting both major helicopter companies and individual pilots alike.
External Load/Longline operations are used mainly where no other machine can work. Whether it be dropping buckets of water on a raging forest fire in California or moving drill rigs in remote parts of Alaska to setting air conditioning units on top of sky scrapers in New York. There are many specific jobs that only helicopters can do, many of which require external load operations. With this said, having some experience and a certificate of completion in our longline course is sure to make your resume stand out!
Longhorn Helicopters offers introductory (5hr) and advanced (10hr) external load courses. Throughout your training we will teach you everything you need to know from inspecting the equipment to the proper way of dealing with emergencies. Our vertical reference instructors have countless hours of longline experience and are OAS Carded, ensuring you will get the best training available.
