The Certified Flight Instructor program is intended for those who want to have the ability to give instruction.  Being a flight instructor is one most common ways of building experience and hours towards being eligible for other commercial jobs. As a CFI you will be responsible for teaching new students everything there is to know about helicopters both in the classroom and the cockpit. It is one of the most rewarding jobs in the industry. Wait until you sign off your first student for their first solo and you will know exactly what i mean.

 

To be eligible for a certified flight instructor rotorcraft pilot certificate, you must:

1. Be at least 18 years of age.

2. Be able to read, speak, write and understand the English language.  

3. Hold at least a commercial pilot certificate.

4. Pass the knowledge test.

5. Pass the practical test.

6. Pass the fundamentals of instruction test.

 

The minimum requirements for the Certified Flight Instructor Helicopter certificate:

Have logged at least--

A. Dual:  No specific min or max amount of time required, just so the applicant has received the appropriate training of § 61.187.

B. PIC: 15 hours as PIC in the category and class of aircraft for the flight instructor rating sought.

 

Part 141 requirements:

Total Dual = 25 hours on the flight instructor areas of operation in a helicopter
