Major Cecil S. Shelton.
Dad was with Channel 5 in the DFW area from 1980 to 1991. He started in the Army Air Corp in 1942 or 1943 flying bombers in the Pacific in WWII.
He flew B-24's B-25's A/B-26's A-20's B-29's KC-29's KC-97's B-47's b-58's and a lot more. Retired from the Air Force in 1962 as a major. Went to work at Fort Walters for Southern Airways as a primary instructor (rotor wing) TH-55's, Hughes and Hillers.
As you know due to cut backs they closed Fort Walters in 1975. He left in late 73 or early 74. He was on of the last instructors to leave. In 1974 we went to Iran with Bell Helicopter. He was a primary instructor there in 206 Jet Rangers. He also flew 214's for a little while, but went back to the 206's and got his own flight. Things got a little ugly over there if you where an American. Again dad was one of the last to leave. That was right before the embassy was taken over. Came back to the states in 1979. Then he started flying for Channel 5 every other week for a year or two, then full time till 90 or 91. I could not count the hours he has, safe to say its alot.
